Brainkind Daniel Yorath House: Comprehensive Water System Modernisation
Project Overview
Service 2 successfully completed a complex domestic hot and cold water system upgrade at Daniel Yorath House, a specialist rehabilitation facility operated by Brainkind. This comprehensive project transformed the building’s water infrastructure, addressing multiple systemic issues while significantly improving reliability, pressure consistency, and water quality for residents and staff.
Challenge
The rehabilitation facility faced several critical water system challenges:
• Inadequate water pressure throughout the building affecting care delivery
• Reliance on 24 individual point-of-use booster pumps creating maintenance burden
• Inconsistent hot water delivery impacting resident comfort and care routines
• Outdated storage tank configuration with potential compliance concerns
• Need to maintain continuous water services to a vulnerable resident population
• Requirement for minimal disruption to rehabilitation activities and care provision
Solution
Our team designed and implemented a comprehensive water system transformation:
• Installed a twin-pump packaged cold water booster set to provide consistent pressure throughout the facility
• Completed all associated electrical power and control wiring to new booster system
• Undertook necessary builders’ work to accommodate new equipment and pipework routes
• Installed an unvented kit to the existing gas-fired water heater with optimised storage connection arrangement
• Reconfigured cold water storage tanks and associated hot, tank cold and mains cold water systems
• Applied professional-grade insulation to all pipework to improve efficiency and prevent heat loss
• Removed 24 Salamander Pumps Ltd ‘Boost’ mini point-of-use pumps and installed infill pipework
• Re-balanced the existing domestic hot water return system to ensure consistent temperature
• Conducted comprehensive sterilisation/chlorination of all water systems to ensure potable water quality
Results
The modernised water system has delivered significant benefits to Daniel Yorath House:
• Consistent water pressure throughout the facility without reliance on multiple point-of-use pumps
• Enhanced reliability with simplified maintenance requirements
• Improved hot water delivery supporting resident care and comfort
• Optimised energy efficiency through better system design and insulation
• Full compliance with water quality and safety regulations
• Reduced operational costs through elimination of multiple pump maintenance
• Improved system resilience with professional-grade equipment
This project exemplifies our expertise in complex water system upgrades within sensitive healthcare environments, particularly our ability to maintain essential services while implementing comprehensive infrastructure improvements.
